Tribunal holds closed door meeting with sugarcane farmers

The Registrar of the Sugar Tribunal, Timothy Brown is holding closed door meeting with farmers in Rakiraki today.

He told The Fiji Times it was a private meeting, after a request was made by the newspaper for coverage.

The Sugar Tribunal deals with the contractual relations between farmers and FSC, that includes determining cane payment prices and setting the dates for the opening and closing of crushing seasons.

It also handles any disputes and differences within the industry.

The Sugar Industry Tribunal also regulates the master award that controls the contractual relationship between FSC and the cane farmer.

The master award came into effect on November 23, 1989.
