Netball Fiji chief executive officer Vivian Koster has labelled the National Academy clinic and trial for the 19 and under a success.
The three-day academy clinic came to a conclusion earlier this week. With more than 50 players participating in the clinic, Koster confirmed that they were able to select 24 players who will be part of the National Academy.
“The National Academy clinic and trial was a success,” she said.
Koster also mentioned that there was a similar academy clinic and trial for the 17 and under grades.
“We had 53 players in the 19 and under grade and 58 players in the 17 and under grade.
“The clinics and games allowed selectors to choose 24 players in each grade. These 48 players make up the National Academy.”
During the clinic, players were taught the basics of the sport, with the aim of developing players and helping them reach their full potential.
“They were taught activation and mobility exercises, an introduction to positional tactical skill development such as timing, space awareness, through court systems and basic defensive body positioning.”
She also confirmed that players from these two grades will be selected for an under-21 national side to represent the country at the World Youth Netball Championships in 2025.
“The 19 and under squad in particular is named with an eye to the 21 and under team in 2025.”
