LAMI High School used yesterday’s combined inter-house event with Ballentine Memorial School as a way of treating its students.

Principal James Faiyaz said with the background of the school, yesterday’s event was for students, teachers and parents to have a time to bond.

“This school has most students who come from broken families or being pushed away from top schools around Suva,” Faiyaz said.

“This is like a last resort for parents, even the ministry calls for us to take in students who are not good with results. “Sports can be a way of telling these students that they have a chance in life.”

He said they were fortunate to share the burden of hosting the event with BMS.

“The cost is too much for us with about 230 students and parents to pay $1500 for the venue,” he said.

“We share the total cost and also the $450 for St John’s that we have to share.

“There are extra cost for field events.”

He said they would rate them as underdogs going into the Suva Zone 2 competition with Taitusi Ratucaucau as their top bet in the 400m race.
