Transport made easy

TRANSPORTATION problems will be a thing of the past for villagers of Nasuva in Seaqaqa following the opening of a new $100,000 bridge.

District officer Macuata Asesela Biutiviti said in a recent visit to the village that the bridge would help villagers get on with their daily chores without worrying about being stranded on either side of the river.

Mr Biutiviti said in the past, flooded river would affect movement of villagers.

“We only hope that the villagers would use the bridge to maximise their daily economic dealings especially with the transportation of farm products to be sold in Seaqaqa and Labasa,”he said.

“Villagers would be stranded in the village during bad weather in the village and this would affect their farm produce which do not get transported to their respective markets in time.

“Children within the 30 households in the village would now access education despite bad weather.”

Nasuva villager, Josaia Rairoqo said the new bridge was a breath of fresh air for the people in the village.

“‘We do not have to worry about floods anymore because in the past we would wait in the village for flood waters to recede before we can cross the waters to get to town and schools for our children in secondary schools in Seaqaqa and Labasa,”he said.

“We are thankful to Government for giving us this bridge and it will surely enable our people to live a normal life.

“In the past 30 years we have been crying for a bridge like this and we are happy that we have a good one like the new one we have.”
