THE transition period currently being experienced in Labasa Town has prompted the Labasa Chamber of Commerce to actively involve members in modernising their shops and outlets.

Such transition, chamber president Satish Kumar said, would see an entrepreneurship and economic boom.

The soon to be developed $3.5 million arena, he said, was also a great move by the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North as the division needed a facility that would bust down the ceilings of limitations.

“Labasa is growing and we are experiencing an ongoing transition period with newly-built buildings, remodelled buildings and more businesses coming to set up this side,” Mr Kumar said.

“Employment opportunities will increase, more opportunities to earn an income and everyone will benefit.

“This transition brings a chain of beneficiaries including the communities and those who run small businesses will also benefit so we are indeed grateful to investors.”

Mr Kumar described the development rate as a rapid growth that would widen marketing opportunities.

“The fast growing development of our town has also provided a city environment for our northern people with a lot of activities happening too,” he said.

“The business environment is becoming modern and we are pleading with our members to also remodel their shops and have signs with lights so people know what the shop is.

“I am positive that more are yet to come for this town and Vanua Levu with the Damodar City also under construction and the opening of the Gurbachan Singh Mall which has attracted a lot of people.”

Mr Kumar said remodelling business house in Labasa was imperative because shoppers had a different taste now compared with a decade ago.
