A STUDENT pilot who was recently cleared to fly solo was involved in an incident at the Nadi International Airport yesterday.

Pacific Flying School owner Tim Joyce said no one was injured in the incident and the Cessna aircraft should be back in service soon.

“The student was fairly new and had just been cleared for solo flights,” he said.

“He veered off runway 09 and went into a pile of dirt.

“Thankfully he didn’t suffer any serious injury and as a precaution we took him for a drug and alcohol test and he was cleared of both.

“Unfortunately, this is one of the hazards of flight training.”

Mr Joyce said an investigation into the incident was underway.

“We need to ascertain what happened because there were no adverse weather conditions or cross-wind at the time of the incident.”
