Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says Fiji is saddened by the news of the three-way crash involving two passenger trains and a freight train causing about 300 fatalities and about 1000 injured casualties, destruction, and damage in India.
The devastating multi-train crash happened in Eastern Odisha State, last Friday, June 2.
In his condolence message written to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Mr Rabuka said the distress and grief of the people of Fiji were heightened by the deep historical bonds between the two countries.
“The victims, survivors, and their families are at the centre of prayers in homes, churches, temples, and mosques throughout Fiji,” he wrote.
“We pray for peace and mercy upon the people of India at this most trying time and it is our sincere hope that our message will provide some comfort to the families of those affected.
“I extend my sincere condolences personally to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government, and the people of India, in particular to families who have lost loved ones and those whose relatives were injured in the horrific crash.”
