FIJI is New Zealand’s most important trading partner in the Pacific.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern emphasized the point during a State dinner at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Tuesday night.

While addressing Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and other senior government officials at the event, PM Ardern said New Zealand and Fiji enjoyed a staggering $1billion in diverse two-way trade.

New Zealand, with 205,998 tourists gracing our shores last year, was also Fiji’s second largest tourism market after Australia who recorded 367,020 visitors to the country.

“We see potential to further grow our trade and our investment relationship and we are very pleased to be partnering with some of our incredibly ambitious programs of economic reforms,” she said.

PM Ardern also said she held discussions about PACER Plus during her bilateral meeting with PM Bainimarama earlier on Tuesday.

“Our view is that it presents an opportunity to strengthen economic prosperity.”

She also said that Fiji and New Zealand were joined in their commitment and leadership role in fighting climate change
