Trade unionist appears on a count of malicious acts

NATIONAL Union of Workers(NUW) general secretary Felix Anthony appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Mr Anthony is charged with one count of malicious acts.

It is alleged that he, on April 26, 2019 in Suva, knowingly spread abroad by word of mouth, to Fiji Times journalist Felix Chaudhary, false news relating to the expiry of Water Authority of Fiji’s workers’ contracts, false news which tended to create or foster public anxiety.

State lawyer Rajneel Kumar served the first phase disclosures in court.

Magistrate Waleen George granted Mr Anthony bail.

The matter will now be called on August 15 for the prosecution to serve full phase disclosures.
