WE are as prepared as we can be.
This was the word from Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto.
He said tourism properties in the Western Division that lay in proximity to the projected path of Tropical Depression 13F were ready and hotels and resorts on the mainland were taking all the necessary precautions.
“Tourists are aware of the weather situation and resort and hotel properties have provided and continue to provide updates to our guests,” he said.
“And every property has done everything it can to ensure the safety and security of guests and staff.
“We never compromise on safety during times like this.
“We have not seen wholesale cancellations or mass exodus of tourists so far and those that do want to leave have been assisted with Fiji Airways making their flights schedules available to all properties.
“Regular visitors to Fiji know that during natural disasters, we fare quite well and are able to bounce back into business in a matter of days.
“In the outer islands, properties have made the necessary arrangements for their guests and have taken every precaution in anticipation of the approaching system.”
Mr Seeto added that regular weather updates were shared with properties across the country and the Tourism Response Team had been activated to assist tourists and stakeholders during this time.
