THE third leg of the Fiji Rugby Union’s Super 7s Series in Savusavu will be a key battle ground to determine the winner of the inaugural event.

The result of the tournament to be held at Savusavu’s Ganilau Park on March 19-20 will likely give a glimpse of what to expect in the final event.

At the moment the race for the inaugural winner is split three-way between Police Blue in the lead and followed by Raiwasa Taveuni and LAR Barbarians.

Police Blue which won the first two tournaments in Sigatoka and Nadi leads with 44 points, Raiwasa Taveuni is second with 36 points and LAR Barbarians third with 32 points.

With excitement building up towards the final two events, national sevens coach Gareth Baber will also be happy with the standard of players playing in the tournament.

After the opening leg at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka Baber said the tournament had given his players an opportunity to be tested especially with the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series cancelled.

Baber said he was lucky there was a tournament where he could watch some of the best sevens players in the world compete and this was something the rest of the teams competing in the World Rugby Sevens Series missed.

For the tournament in Savusavu, two new teams will be included to replace Bukuya and Dominion Brothers in the two-day tournament.
