Top turnout in annual marathon

A TOTAL 460 participants competed in the 2017 Munro Leys Suva Challenge that was held at the Albert Park in Suva, yesterday.
Suva Marathon Club president Sandeep Narayan said the marathon was part of their three events they organised annually.
“We organise events to promote awareness for healthy living and it is also a buildup for our main event —— the Suva Marathon that takes place around June-July every year,” Narayan said.
He said he was pleased with the turn-out and the interest showed by the members of the public and business houses.
Munro Leys lawyer John Apted said they were proud to have sponsored such an event that promoted healthy living.
“Munro Leys takes its social responsibilities very seriously and this marathon gives us a great opportunity to help convey a positive message about community health,” Apted said.
Amongst the competitors, Fiji’s number one 5000m runner Avikash Lal won the men’s half-marathon event clocking a time of 1:22:20 while Anna Cowley took the women’s category with a time of 1:57:41.
Division of participants:
– 40 half marathon runners
– 50 teams- one team consist of four teams members
– 200 fun run.
– 20 kids fun run.
