Tonga’s Covid 19 State of Emergency (SoE) has been extended until at least 31 August.

The SoE, first implemented in March, was extended on Tuesday.

It imposes various limits on activity, including a curfew from midnight to 5am.

Gatherings are limted to 50 people, or 100 when outdoors.

The government is also urging people to maintain social distancing and good hygiene.

Both the police and the army have the power to enforce SoE directions.

No cases of the coronavirus have been detected in Tonga.

The Kingdom has been cautiously repatriating citizens stranded overseas by the closure of its borders under the SoE.
