TONGA men’s 7s team manager Filokalafi Akauola said they would be taking their game one step at a time during the Oceania Sevens this weekend as they fight to qualify for the Rugby Sevens World Cup.
“To qualify for the Rugby Sevens World Cup is a huge step for us of which we are very positive we can take on. To qualify from the Oceania region is huge, Oceania is home to two of the world’s greatest nations in 7s, the Fiji Airways Sevens and New Zealand. We are very fortunate to take them,” Akauola said.
He said they had been training well and always enjoyed travelling to Fiji and they were really looking forward to the competition.
“The draw looks very tough with a lot of challenges we have to overcome but we are not taking this lightly and thinking ahead of ourselves.”
They are grouped in Pool C alongside Australia and the Solomon Islands.
