Tiliva 7s heats up

ORGANISERS of the Tiliva 7s are optimistic that this year’s tournament will be a thriller.

The tournament will be held at the Tiliva District School ground on Kadavu and teams are being encouraged to pay their registration fees before the end of this month.

Epeli Vakatawa one of the organisers said the tournament next month would boost the morale of teams on Kadavu as they had receive some interested clubs on Viti Levu and Ovalau to be part of the event.

“We can confirm that this year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s semi-finalist Ratu Filise and last year’s winner Uro Kadavu, which comprised players from the Tabadamu team, will be part of the two-day tournament,” he said.

“For the furthest travelling teams, we have a team from Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team skipper Jerry Tuwai’s village, Buca Baabas, that was part of last year’s tournament, and Bumble Bee Duavata Young Boys from Ovalau.”

Vakatawa said they hoped for good weather because this was something that would dictate the participating teams’ performance.

“Last year’s aim was all fulfilled from our sponsor —— Vodafone, the vanua and the only thing was not on our side was the weather that really affected the teams taking part.

Thirty teams have confirmed their participation and five have cleared their registration fees and Vakatawa said the first 10 teams to pay their fee would be provided with accommodation.

“Food will be available in the stalls with $7 per meal and teams are welcomed to bring their rations for the two-day tournament.”

The tournament will be held from April 26-27 and for the transport clarification, team managers to contact Vakatawa on 9990267.
