TEAM Fiji arrived into the country on Friday after a good outing at the Youth Summer Olympic games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Chef de mission Tomasi Tiko said the athletes not only participated in the games but it was a learning experience for them.

“The experience was an eye opener for the athletes, as for each of them; this was their first major tournament,” Tiko said.

“This huge event gave them an opportunity to compete at a high level with top athletes from other countries.”

With a small contingent of three athletes, Team Fiji managed to scoop a silver medal from the Youth Summer Olympic Games.

“The least that we asked from each of the athletes was for them to give their best in their events.

“We are really proud of the outcome, especially for returning home with a silver medal. With a small group of three athletes, this is the best result I would say and it has been a good outing for the athletes.”

Tiko thanked the administrators and the people behind the scene that contributed to the success of the Team Fiji journey.

“We are appreciative to those behind the scenes. The families for their support, the staff at FASANOC and the Olympic house, corporate sponsors as well as the government of the day for the funding.”
