IF you have nothing to do today then get your family and loved ones down to Thurston Gardens for a day of non-stop good music and food.

Scheduled to begin at mid-day today, the Thurston Food and Music festival is set to rock Suva.

Co-founder Ellana Kalounisiga said together with her husband Inoke Kalounisga, aka Knox, they intended to build a lasting legacy for the local musicians- a platform to perform in a professionally run festival that would match any of its kind overseas.

“The Goal was to bring together various sectors of the community to appreciate and enjoy the value of live music,” she said.

“We also wanted to show the performers the other side of being a part of Festivals like this by having performance agreements and media expectations in place.

“We want to lift the standard of the live music industry in Fiji, lift the rates of pay for performers and hopefully encourage other event managers to pay the performers fairly.

This is a Community event and we love nothing more than sitting back and seeing all the families come out in the beautiful setting of Thurston Gardens and enjoy some really amazing live performance.”

Ms Kalounisiga said tickets to the festival were being sold for $25 so the public was actually paying just $2.50 per hour to be a part of the event.
