A tree that fell on top of a vehicle at Holland St, Suva, yesterday resulted in three people being rushed to the hospital.

Mere Tinai, 31, a resident in the area said she was tending to her two young children when she heard a loud crashing sound outside of their home.

She did not make much of it until she heard cries for help and ran outside to see a tree had fallen on top of a car, trapping five people inside.

“There was a woman who was crying for help and the rest of the passengers and the driver were in a state of shock,” she said.

Ms Tinai said other motorists came to the aid of the family and helped them get out of the vehicle.

“It was heartwarming to see people rushing to help the family out as it was a very scary scene,” she said.

“Police officers came and took three of the injured people to the hospital while the other two were taken home.”

Holland St was closed off to traffic for almost two hours as the Suva City Council staff cleared the debris, with motorists advised taking alternative routes.
