THREE sports from Team Fiji have qualified to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in July while six sports are yet to secure a spot.

The three sporting federations that have qualified are Fiji Rugby men’s and women’s teams, swimming and athletics.

Swimming and athletics have made it through to the Olympics through universalities where Fiji Swimming will be required to take two athletes while Athletics Fiji will take one.

Yet to qualify is archery, athletics, boxing, judo, karate and table tennis.

Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower said the sports that were yet to secure a spot in Team Fiji’s contingent are presently out to international competitions to try and qualify.

“We are coming very close to finalising the teams but the teams still have the opportunity to go overseas for competitions which is what they have been doing,” Bower said.

The final team will be finalised by the end of June before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on July 24 in Tokyo, Japan.
