MORE than 150 international swimmers participated in the Ocean Swim Fiji event which was held September 13 to 17.

In a press statement released this week, Tourism Fiji said the three-day international event drew participants from Australia, New Zealand, the United States and United Kingdom.

Ocean Swim Fiji organiser and managing director of Quantum Events Scott Rice said the event offered registered participants the opportunity to choose between a 1 km or 3 km swim from three different locations at Tivua Island, Malamala Beach Club and Natadola Beach.

“The inaugural Ocean Swim Fiji was an extraordinary event that truly captured the spirit of adventure, culture, stunning scenery and total relaxation that makes Fiji famous around the world,” said Mr Rice.

“We were overwhelmed with the positive feedback from swimmers, their supporters and the Fijian community and can’t wait to be back next year.”

Mr Rice added that the event was focused on contributing positively to Fiji, beyond the swimming event itself.

“Giving back to the local community was a really important part of our vision for Ocean Swim Fiji.

“It was a privilege and a real pleasure to help the next generation of young Fijian swimmers develop their confidence and skills in the ocean, especially under the guidance of some of the best swimmers and coaches in the Pacific region plus it was loads of fun.

“Our swimmers also donated a significant amount of equipment to Fiji Swimming.

“Coaching clinics were also conducted at Natadola Beach with the children and was a great sight to see all the little children in the water learning and having fun at the same time.”
