They are no more

AS search and rescue operation unveiled the inevitable at the Cessna 172 aircraft crash site at Delaikoro, Vanua Levu yesterday, the families of instructor Iliesa Tawalo and trainee pilot Merelesita Lutu grappled with the tragic news of the discovery.

Mr Tawalo’s stepfather Mosese Baledrokadroka finally embraced the news of the death of his son last night and so did Ms Lutu’s parents who accepted the fact that “she is gone”.

“I’m thankful to God that Iliesa has been found,” said Mr Baledrokadroka at their home in Votualevu, Nadi last night.

“I’m grateful that Iliesa is going to a place that God has provided for him,” Mr Baledrokadroka said.

Ms Lutu’s dad Emosi said she was steadfast on becoming a pilot despite his dislike of the thought that her job might take her away from him.

“We have accepted the fact she is gone and it is hard as a family to think about other things. I guess we have accepted that all this waiting has come to an end,” he said.

Her mother Adi Moala said: “I will always cherish the last kiss she gave me at the airport last Friday.”
