THERE are a number of teachers who do not have the teaching qualifications required for their role, states Education Ministry permanent secretary Alison Burchell in a circular to teachers who have a one year or short term contracts that have expired last year and likely to expire at the end of next term.

Ms Burchell stated all teachers who are employed and do not have relevant qualifications as outlined in the ministry’s Human Resource Policy and Procedure – teacher remuneration setting have been encouraged to undertake studies to complete relevant qualifications.

She stated that the ministry was working to place priority on achieving a fully-qualified workforce, stability in the workforce and also ensuring that teachers are advised early regarding contract renewal arrangements.
