Fijians need to adapt to changes brought about by COVID- 19, they need to take ownership of their health and need to protect loved ones who have non-communicable diseases, says Health Ministry Head of Wellness Dr Devina Nand.
She said Fiji had a high burden of NCDs that made up 84 per cent of Fiji’s mortality rate annually, thus the need to ensure people with NCDs received well-balanced and healthy meals.
Former Lautoka Hospital specialist surgeon Dr Jone Hawea said NCDs claimed the most lives in Fiji but did not receive any mention in the COVID-19 discussion.
He said it was important for Fijians to note that NCD patients were most at risk from the virus.
