THE Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team extended squad will be given a fair share of game time before the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series kicks off in Dubai later this month.

Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber has been mixing new players with the experienced ones in local 7s tournaments around the country trying to find the right combination for the team to represent Fiji in the Oceania 7s Championship.

The Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor believes that Baber will have a tough time trying to select his squad for the Oceania 7s.

“The Fiji 7s team will be camping this week preparing for the Oceania 7s and we will select two teams and if the players miss out on the line-up for the Oceania 7s then the second team will travel to Japan for a local 7s tournament,” O’Connor.

“So we are giving opportunities for players to expose themselves in 7s tournaments and for them to prove themselves if they want to don the national jumper in the world series.”

Fiji leads Pool A with Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Meanwhile, the national 7s team will defend the Oceania 7s Championship after they thumped New Zealand last year in the final 26-0.
