Technology helps reduce carbon emission

EMBRACING technology while also understanding simple fixes has given Japan a unique take on reducing it’s greenhouse gas emissions.

That was the overarching message for five Pacific and Caribbean journalists who are participants of the Association for Promotion of International Cooperation-Foreign Press Centre of Japan program in Tokyo.

The participants visited renowned car manufacturers, Honda where they learnt of the vehicle giant’s progress into the manufacture of hydrogen and electrical powered cars.

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had earlier made a vow to turn the nation into a “hydrogen society” as a way to diversify energy sources and cut carbon dioxide emissions, and Honda has followed suit.

The company is leasing it’s Clarity Fuel Cell car to municipal councils and government agencies in Japan.

It is planning to launch retail sales in the US state of California by the end of this year.
