Manmeet Kaur was expecting her husband Ramesh Kumar to return home after undergoing a “successful” surgery at the Lautoka Hospital.

This was one of the reasons his death dealt an unbearable blow.

The 53-year-old was announced as Fiji’s third COVID-19 death earlier this month.

Ms Kaur wept openly at the Lovu Crematorium yesterday as health officials and police handed over his body for the final funeral rites.

“It is hard to process because I last saw him at the emergency ward when I took him on April 19, next thing I’m told he is gone,” she said.

About 20 close family members, including their only daughter, Priya Devi, attended the funeral.
