Netball Fiji selectors will put together a national men’s team to provide warm-up matches for the touring Singapore women’s team next week.

Netball Fiji chief executive officer Vivian Koster said the Punjas Fiji Men’s Netball Championship which concluded at the Vodafone Arena in Laucala Bay, Suva yesterday, was a good platform to select talent.

The Singapore national women’s team arrives in the country next week.

“We will have the Singapore women’s team coming in for their Test match against our Fiji Pearls, our under-21 and also for our men’s team.

“During this championship, we will select a team that will play against these girls, so it’s a win-win situation.”

A total of eight men’s teams from Suva, Nadroga, Nadi, Nasinu and Tailevu competed in the championship.

“Our initial plan is to recognise our men’s talents both athletes and technical officials.

“They have contributed so much to netball and so we saw that we don’t have any competition specifically for men.

“The men’s team are our training partner for the Fiji Pearls so if we have to build our girls up, they need a tough training partner so to have the men’s team will mean having tough competition for the girls.”
