THE lack of modern training facilities is a major drawback for Nanukuloa Rugby Union.

Its team reached the semi-finals of the Vodafone Vanua Cup losing to Yasawa 17-7.

Last weekend Nanukuloa lost to Yasawa 25-13 in the Bainimarama Shield challenge. Nanukuloa Rugby Union coaching director Reverend Jioji Rinakama said they hoped to regroup early and start with an off-season training program.

Rinakama said the players would work on their strength and conditioning programs.

He said they wanted to set up a gymnasium by the end of the year.

“We have to start our off- season training program early and I think the boys learned a lot of lessons this year.

“For next year we have to regroup early. We need more technical expertise to get the players into better strength.

“We are lacking with many facilities like a gymnasium, scrum machines, hit shields, cones and other stuff. We are hoping to set up a gym by December.”

Yasawa will defend the Bainimarama Shield against Ovalau this weekend.
