FOOD stock, groceries and items in supermarkets have been shifted to safer places as business houses in Labasa prepare for the tropical depression that is expected to affect the North from tomorrow.

Although the expected depression has not generated heavy rain in the area, people have started packing supermarkets buying food and water supply.

The Emergency Operations Centre based at the Commissioner Northern’s office has been activated.

Government departments around the island are on standby as the tropical depression is expected to intensify into a cyclone and is heading towards the group.

The Acting Commissioner Northern, Uraia Rainima, has confirmed that evacuation centres have also been identified.

He has pleaded with members of the public to stay safe, prepare food stock and water to last them during the bad weather period.
