TC Tino: State directive on usage of student bus cards poses problem

A DIRECTIVE by Government to place a restriction on the usage of e-transport cards by students within specified hours is prohibiting bus operators from taking students home during these adverse weather conditions.

The Government had announced students could only use the e-transport cards between 6:30am to 9am, and 2:30pm and 5pm.

With Rakiraki experiencing heavy rain, Flying Prince Limited had wanted to transport students home early.

“We are not being able to do this because the cards can only be used after 2:30pm,” said director Satendra Kumar.

“There is a danger of roads getting flooded and what will we do when we take students in the afternoon and roads are flooded.”

Mr Kumar said this policy had to be reviewed so that student’s lives were not endangered.

He said his buses would not be able to take any students home until 2:30pm onwards.

“I may be forced to drop the students by the roadside if we find roads are flooded.”
