TC Tino expected to make landfall in Vanua Levu by week-end

TROPICAL Cyclone Tino is forecasted to make landfall on Vanua Levu by 6pm on Friday, according to the latest threat map issued by the Fiji Meteorological Department.

TC Tino will be a category one system by then with winds between 63–87 km/hr.

Based on the treat map, TC Tino will make landfall near the village of Navidamu in Macuata.

By 6pm on Friday, TC Tino is forecasted to become a category two cyclone as it will pass over Lakeba on its way to Kabara.

A tropical cyclone alert is now in force for Rotuma.

TD04F, which will intensify into TC Tino, was located about 980km West of Rotuma at 6am today.

“Close to its centre, TD0FF is expected to have average winds of up to 40km/hr with momentary gusts to 60km/hr,” said the national weather forecasting centre in Nadi.

TD04F is expected to gradually intensify into a depression by 12am tomorrow and expected to further intensify into a category 1 cyclone by Thursday evening.

It is moving at 10km/hr towards Rotuma.
