As of 3pm yesterday, 1837 Fijians were billeted in 110 evacuation centres (ECs) around the county, says Disaster Management Minister Inia Seruiratu.

He made the comment during a news conference yesterday.

Mr Seruiratu said there were eight ECs in the Northern Division sheltering 235 evacuees, 76 in the Western Division sheltering 1049 evacuees and 28 in the Central Division sheltering 553 evacuees.

He said the National Disaster Management Office was working closely with police and the Health Ministry to ensure the safety of all and that COVID-19 protocols were strictly adhered to.

“We have divided the ECs into two simple zones, a red and a green zone,” he said.

“The red zone is where we have the highly vulnerable, particularly the unvaccinated, known cases and those that maybe developing symptoms as well.

“In the green zone, we have those that are a-symptomatic and those that don’t have any indication of COVID-19 as well.”

He said they also emphasised the normal safety protocols such as masking, hygiene and social distancing to minimise gathering within the ECs.

He also said that TC Cody was slowly exiting the group but the Fiji Meteorological Service had confirmed that rain would continue until midweek and urged Fijians to remain alert.
