We are just trying to make do with what we have.

This was the sentiment shared by Ravinesh Dayal, a taxidriver who lives in Maravu settlement, Laucala Beach Estate, Nasinu.

He said last week, his earnings had dropped significantly to between $30 to $40 per day because of business being limited to within the Suva containment zone.

“It is much less compared with what I would make before,” he said.

“When the lockdown began and the restrictions were made stricter, more people started working from home and eventually everything just shut down again.

“People aren’t going to work and children aren’t going to school because of the restrictions and it affects us who provide transport for these people.

“We have lived through this before, but we need to ensure that we follow the restrictions so that no more people are infected.”

He said even though the containment had affected his income, he was glad he and his family were safe.

Mr Dayal also said he would try to withdraw funds from the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) to provide for his family if things got worse.
