THE Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) president Rajesh Patel, its board members and the entire football fraternity are saddened to learn the death of former national team player and Tavua legend Savenaca Nasara.
Tagged as the “captain with injured toe”, Nasara led his fellow Tavua team to its first Fiji Fact victory at Ratu Cakobau Park beating Suva 1-0 in the final.
Another highlight of his career was when he captained the Tavua side with an injured toe to lift their first Inter-District Championship title in Lautoka beating Nadi 2-0.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf acknowledged Nasara’s contribution to the football arena.
“It’s a huge loss.
“He was a great player of his time and contributed immensely whenever he was given an opportunity.
“A great leader and an entertaining football player. He will surely be missed by those who knew him.” Yusuf said his thoughts and prayers were with the family during this difficult time.
“Our heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolence is with his family at this difficult point in time and I pray to the Almighty that his soul rests in peace.”
Nasara’s call from heaven came last week on Thursday and was laid to rest on Saturday.
