THE Holy Cross Wairiki Parish sevens team hopes to come out as a surprise package at this year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
The Taveuni side comprises players who originally hail from Taveuni.
Team official, Wani Gade says the players are camping at Lavena Village as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.
Gade said they had a set of new players who they picked from the Wairiki sevens tournament last year.
“Majority of our players are originally from Taveuni,” he said.
“We had specifically picked players from various villages within Taveuni so we can help showcase their talents and get our own Taveuni boys to play for our team instead of outsiders.”
Gade said their players were from Lavena, Qeleni, Selesele, Tavuki and Delaivuna.
“We look forward to the Marist sevens tournament and we hope to come out as the surprise package,” he said.
“During these two weeks, we have worked on a lot of areas especially with our fitness and we have also worked on team-bonding.
“We will not undermine any team but we would like to come and showcase our talents especially our new players.”
