A PEACEFUL protest over a land dispute in Tamavua village was stopped by police this morning.

The village youths were told to put down placards showing their grievances over the land dispute just minutes after they staged the protest at around 10am.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they didn’t have the permit to hold the protest and that they should have followed the legal process of resolving the land dispute.

Tamavua village land development committee chairman Kaminieli Tunisau said their aim was to stage the peaceful protest without causing any harm to the society.

He said they would do anything to save their land resources for the sake of their people and the future generation.
