Talents of back office staff members on display at event

BACK of office staff in hotels and resorts have been given a platform to showcase their talents at the 2019 HOTEC Tradeshow.
With a range of competitions and challenges arranged during the two-day event, the platform has brought out some of the industry’s best.
Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association CEO Fantasha Lockington said this year’s event had highlighted some of the exceptional skills that people in the industry had in the service industry.
“Our local people never seem to have enough confidence to showcase how talented they are,” she said.
“The whole idea behind the competitions is you show what you can do and do better.
“People learn from you and eventually you will lift the standard of the work because people can see how somebody is doing the exact same thing they are doing but is doing it a lot more professionally.
“So that is what these competitions do for the people in the service industry and not only that, it gives exposure to our back office staff.
“The tourism industry is not just the front office staff in the hotels, it is also the back office staff.
“It is also the people that make your stay at the hotel a wonderful experience.
“It is about the people that is making your coffee, your meal and your bed and cleaning your room.
“If we can lift the standards of people working in the back of house then we are lifting the standard of the entire industry.”
The tradeshow hosted competitions for bed making, baristas and a masters chef challenge during the two days.
