A $400,000 humanitarian aid was donated by Taiwan to support Fiji in response to the devastation caused by the severe tropical cyclones Yasa and Ana.

As Taiwan is no stranger to disasters, considering its geographic location in the earthquake belt and on the major tracks of typhoons in the west Pacific area, its government and people are glad to lend a helping hand to Fiji when the need arises during the cyclone season.

In a statement Jessica Lee, Representative of Taipei Trade Office in Fiji, on behalf of the people and the Government of Republic of China (Taiwan) said the donation is a reflection of Taiwan’s goodwill and friendship to the government and people of Fiji and Taiwanese people stand in solidarity with Fijian friends in the times of need.

“Seeing that the Fijians have demonstrated great strength, courage and positive stance in resilience to the climate challenge, she believed that under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Frank Barnimarama, and the Ministry of Disaster Management, the country will soon recover from the disaster and people’s lives will go back to normal,” Ms Lee said.

Arieta Dimuri, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management who received the cheque said that Fijian government is grateful to the donation and whole-heartedly appreciates Taiwan’s goodwill and friendship towards Fiji and its people and the relief fund will be used for the purchase of residence emergency supplies for people affected by the cyclones.
