The Tagimoucia Flames netball team was crowned the overall champion of the 2022 Punjas Digicel Super Club Netball Championship that was held in Suva during the weekend.

The team beat western giants Sekoula 32-28 at the Vodafone Arena on Saturday for the title. After trailing 13-14 at halftime, the Tagimoucia Flames fought back to win.

Meanwhile, Netball Fiji has its hands full this season after the completion of the two-day championship on the weekend.

NF is preparing for the Oceania qualifiers for the Netball World Cup in 2023 and the PacificAus Sports Netball Series in March in Sydney, Australia.

The weekend’s championship was a chance for national coach Unaisi Rokoura to look at the Fiji Pearls squad members and potential talents.

NF chief executive officer Vivian Koster said the championship was important because it was part of the selection process.

“We have been able to see the national players in their game situation and it has allowed the assessment of the players to happen in that environment,” Koster said.

“This competition has allowed us to gauge our strength against the teams that we will be facing.

“This competition has been a way for us to prepare well for that series. I had a chat with our national coach and she was impressed with the performance of players in the national squad.

“They have been putting into effective the things that she wanted them to do.

The girls will be playing against Samoa, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea and Tonga.

These are the same teams that we will play against in the World Cup qualifiers.”
