FIJI’S roads are constantly in disrepair because of the large amount of vehicles the Government floods Fiji with, says Opposition Whip Lynda Tabuya.

“The problem is that the only ‘road’ that the Government is heavily protecting and invested in is Grace Road,” she said while addressing Parliament yesterday.

“Why is this Government continuing to flood the market with cars. Cars that continue to cause traffic jams spanning many kilometres adding to the polluting smog in the mornings that cannot be simply COP’ED away.”

And with consultations in progress for the Climate Change Act, Ms Tabuya said this was another avenue to access money. She said the other ways in which Government was raising revenue was to dispose of government assets such as Energy Fiji Ltd to the tune of nearly $400 million.

“Time will tell if corporatising these national assets will result in the selling off of our children’s future.

“Government’s desperate attempts to grab cash is falling short and leaving holes in our national budget as big as those found on our roads,” she added.
