Fiji Bowls coach Maurice Symes is still optimistic the Fiji Bowls team will be in a better position come the 2020 World Bowls later this year.

After the completion of the Asian Pacific championship last year where Fiji had an average outing, results for coach Symes were not as expected.

“The men were very disappointing at the Asia Pacifics,” Symes said.

“I was expecting them to win medals and they didn’t win any medals, in fact three disciplines didn’t qualify at all for world bowls.”

In the ladies category, however, Fiji qualified for four events in the singles, pairs, triples and fours, whereas the men have only qualified to play in the triples at the World Bowls this year.

But Symes said he knew the potential within the Fiji Bowls players and the surprises they were capable of pulling off.

“The resolve of the Fijian bowler allows them to hold their heads high in major competitions. They have won medals in nearly every event they attend.”
