Swim team ready

FIJIAN swimmers will be exposed to the toughest competition during in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, says Fiji Swimming coach Sharon Pickering-Smith.

The Commonwealth Games will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia from April 4-15.

“The swimmers have been doing very well in training,” Pickering-Smith said.

“Matelita Buadromo, Taichi Vakasama and Epeli Rabua have been training hard and we also have Cheyenne Rova and Paul Elaisa training in the US.

“We have a group of senior and matured swimmers. Basically they are ready and we have two weeks of hard training left.”

Pickering-Smith said Vakasama, the youngest swimmer in the team, had a long way to go in his swimming career.

“He is 18 years old and has a lot ahead of him.

“Winning at the Commonwealth Youth Games was a big boost for him and Fiji Swimming. The competition will be tough and the best breaststroke swimmers will be there from around the Commonwealth.”

Team Fiji departs for the Gold Coast on March 30.
