IT was a proud moment for Lutu, Wainibuka native, Fane Sauvakacolo after breaking the record in the senior girls 100 metre finals.

Sauvakacolo ran a time of 12.87 seconds breaking the old record of 13.53 made by Mereoni Natau of Lomary Secondary School.

The 19 year-old lass thanked the support of her family who helped to boost her morale during her preparations.

“I have been suffering from a few injuries but I am thankful I was able to beat our rival school, Saint Joseph.

“I am thankful for this win and I want to try my best in the cokes because there will be tougher competition from other schools,” said Sauvakacolo.

The Grammarian is also part of the Pacific Games training squad hoping to get a spot in the team for the triple jump event and the 4 by 100 metre relay team.
