The FMF Suva women’s rugby team faces a mammoth task when they take on Nadroga today in round two of the ANZ Marama Cup competition at Albert Park.

Team manager Ana Tuivanuavonu says the defending champions will approach every game as a final and will not underestimate any teams in the competition.

Suva met Nadroga last week in Nadi as the curtain raiser to the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua and Brumbies clash.

“The girls have been working on a few areas that needed work from last week’s game and we are excited to run onto the field,” Tuivanuavonu said.

Other matches:

U19 8.30am: Yasawa – Rewa; 10.40am: Nadroga – Suva; 8.30am: Navosa – Tailevu; 10.40am: Nadi – Namosi.

Senior team: 9.05am: Yasawa – Rewa; 11.15am: Nadroga – Suva, 9.05am: Navosa – Tailevu; 11.15am: Nadi – Namosi.

The ANZ Marama Championship matches will be curtain raisers to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua match when they take on the Rebels at the HFC Stadium in Suva.

“We’re just really thankful to the Suva Rugby Union for being so supportive, ensuring that our girls have the proper training equipment and facilities to prepare ourselves.”

The central-based side has been preparing for the ANZ Marama Championship since November last year and is ready to run on the field.

“The girls have been preparing for the championship since November last year as part of our pre-season training, and we continue to see girls show interest in joining the team.”

Tuivanuavonu says their fans can expect a good display of rugby tomorrow from the FMF Suva Women’s side and encourages them to turn up in numbers to support the team.

“Nadroga is a very strong team, very physical with a lot of strong runners, but we are ready to jump on the field and play some rugby.”

Both the senior and under-19 grades of each team will be battling it out for the Suva and Nadroga side.
