THE Suva Warriors have become the first team to progress to the 2016 Cricket Fiji National Men’s Championship semi-finals after they beat Nadi by 91 runs with four wickets remaining at Albert Park in Suva, yesterday.

According to Cricket Fiji High Performance manager Joseva Rika 16 teams competed in the competition and they would continue with their elimination rounds tomorrow.

In other matches Lautoka (136) beat Cicia (107) by 29 runs in their bottom of the pool matches.

“We had an invitation squad which comprises players from Suva, Nadi and Lautoka,” Rika said.

He said nine of the 16 teams were from the Lau Group of islands, two from Suva, Lautoka and Nadi had one team each, one invitation side, Sydney All-stars from Australia and a team from Rotuma.

“We are looking forward to an exciting day of cricket tomorrow (today) as we will be continuing with our final pool games and then the finals rounds.”

The competition continues today at the newly refurbished Albert Park in Suva.
