Suva to host biggest national badminton event

FIJI Badminton is ready to host the Fiji Open, the biggest national badminton event which starts today at the Yat Sen School hall in Suva.

The tournament this year will not only feature local players but other international badminton players from South Korea, Samoa and New Caledonia.

Fiji Badminton official Andra Whiteside said the competition this year would be more competitive as overseas-based players were coming in to push the competition.

“We have over a hundred entries for this tournament which includes six players from overseas coming down to compete,” Whiteside said.

“There are three from South Korea, two from New Caledonia and one from Samoa. In addition, we will see national representatives, development players, social players as well as junior players,” she added.

The competition will feature three different grades.

“The public are most welcome to come and watch some quality badminton over the weekend and admission is free,” said Whiteside.
