SUVA were crowned Fiji Rugby Union Skipper Cup 10s champion after defeating Naitasiri 12-0 in the final at Buckhurst ground in Suva yesterday.
Suva scored two tries in the game, one each to Seru Cavuilati and Inia Tawalo.
Jone Manu converted Cavuilati’s try in the first half while Tawalo’s try in the second half was unconverted.
Both teams showed strength as they battled it out in the final game of the inaugural one-day tournament.
Qaqa Naitasiri was undefeated in pool games and thrashed Namosi 19-7 in one semi-final while Suva defeated Nadroga 12-10 in a close match.
Captain Samuela Bola said he was glad to be helping the boys and was proud of how the players performed despite having a few losses in pool games.
“This is the start of a new season for us and with this win we have set a platform on how we should keep moving towards to achieve our goal,” he said.
“The boys did well even though we could see they were tired, but coming through to the semis and the final we could tell our strength improved to another stage and we proved that we can still win.
“We have a bunch of young players who are determined to wear the blue jersey and represent Suva this season.”
Bola said they would have a one-week break before they resumed their training for the 2018 Skipper Cup competition.
