A couple who operate a mini market along Natabua in Lautoka claim that the night before a teenager’s body was found face down in a nearby creek there was a flurry of activity in the area.

Tony Sare and his wife Paulini Dikisi said police were in the area last Saturday night looking for a robbery suspect and that suspicious noises were heard after they had left.

“A few hours after police were in the area, at around midnight, I heard some shouting from the bushes nearby,” Ms Dikisi said.

“I was thinking what are these people doing when it’s curfew hours already.

“It was quiet and I could hear the noise clearly from home.”

Ms Dikisi said while she was relieved there was a checkpoint nearby, she called her husband’s boss to request Mr Sare return home because she was afraid.

Police media officer Wame Bautolu said the body of the teenager was identified by his family yesterday and investigations were continuing.

He said a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The family of the 18-year-old requested their rights be respected as they tried to gather more information on the circumstances surrounding his death.
