Suspended sentence for man involved in daylight robbery

Listen to this article:

A 17-year-old who took part in a daylight aggravated robbery was handed a two-year jail term suspended for three years.

He and another accomplice forcefully entered a house in Sigatoka in 2020 and stole a mobile phone and a pocket Wi-Fi.

In his January 12 ruling in the High Court in Lautoka, Justice Sunil Sharma noted both had pleaded guilty to the charges.

“From the pre-punishment report it is obvious to me that the parents of the juvenile take responsibility for the actions of their son as well,” said Justice Sharma.

“The juvenile has now turned 18 years and is employed in the security company owned by his father.

“This employment has brought about a sense of responsibility in the juvenile who is directly under the control and supervision of his father.”

Justice Sharma said with parental supervision and support, the juvenile had a bright future ahead of him.
