Top surfers from the country gathered last weekend to compete at the annual PBS Lighthouse Challenge in Suva.

The tournament also served as the Fiji Surfing Organisation’s second national trials to select a team to represent Fiji to the World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico next year.

Coming in at first place for their respective divisions was Timoci Tuitavuki from the Coral Coast in the men’s open division, Hannah Bennett for the women’s, Orlando Hill for the junior U16 division, and Andrew Rhodes of Wailoloa Board Rider Club for the master’s division.

Fiji Surfing Association president Hannah Bennett said she was impressed with the performance of surfers competing in the tournament last weekend.

“The final for the men’s division in this event showcased the most impressive surfing I have ever witnessed in Fiji’s surfing history,” she said.

“This new generation of surfers are competing at a very high level and demonstrating progressive manoeuvres that we have not seen before in local competition.

“Special thanks go out to the event organisers, officials & and board rider clubs who attended. Including secondary sponsors Coral Cats Fiji, The Projects Collective, Dilo Up Handmade Products, The Royal Suva Yacht Club, and the Fiji Surfing Association executive committee.”
